George L. Schnegg, Jr., 93, formerly of Cochran Hill, Clarington, Ohio died Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at his home in Woodsfield, Ohio. He was born July 4, 1927 in Switzerland Township, Clarington, a son of the late George L. and Emma Buri Schnegg. George graduated from Clarington High School in 1945 then served in the Army Air Corps from September, 1945 to November, 1946. He married Mildred McDougal on her birthday, September 20, 1949. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together in 2019. He retired from CONALCO in 1992. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Powhatan, Steelworkers Union 5760, Clarington Lodge 597, F & AM, Clarington Chapter 533, OES, and the I.O.O.F.  George was well known for his woodworking, particularly balls in a cage.  He was proud to say he had key rings in several states across the Country. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred McDougal Schnegg in January, 2020; his brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Dorothy Schnegg; his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and George Gikler; also a great granddaughter, Jenny Lynn Dietrich.  Surviving are his children, Marsha (Rod) Leasure of Marietta, Sandra (Harold) Dietrich of Clarington, Kathie (Glenn) Darrah of Woodsfield, Debra (Bryan) McDonald of Corona del Mar, California, and Sam Schnegg and friend, Heather Persinger of Clarington; grandchildren, Casey Dietrich and Derek Dietrich of Clarington, Jeff (Valerie) Dietrich of Marietta, Keith (Tina) Dietrich of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; great grandchildren, Jacey Dietrich, Alice Jo Dietrich, Isaac Dietrich, Eve Dietrich, Zackary Dietrich, and Ethan Dietrich; also many nieces and nephews. In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, face coverings and social distancing will be required for visitation on Saturday, January 2 at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm with Rev. Bill Meyer officiating.  Interment will be in Zion Cemetery.
