John A. Palmer, Sr., 87, of Beallsville, Ohio died Thursday, June 10, 2021 in the home that he loved following a long illness. He was born April 2, 1934 near Glencoe, Ohio, a son of the late Vernon and Nettie Pittman Palmer.
John was a member of East Sunsbury Baptist Church near Beallsville and retired at the age of 83 from Knowlton Ford in Woodsfield where he had worked as a mechanic. He was also a life-long member of the Beallsville Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Whitmer Palmer; three siblings, Wilbert "Bud" Palmer, Berthina "Sissy" Palmer, and Amanda Thomas; also a son-in-law, David Hammel. Left to cherish his memory are nine children, Johnny (Deb) Palmer of Beallsville, Donnie (Jackie) Palmer of Bethesda, Ronnie (Angie) Palmer of Ozark, Jeanie Hammel of Belmont, Judy (David) Crooks of Alledonia, Allen (Brenda) Palmer of Texas, Scott (Mary) Palmer of Beallsville, Donna "Pie" (John) Mansfield of Tennessee, and Tim Palmer (Barbara Rainey) of Beallsville; a sister, Vivian Dougherty of Woodsfield; 37 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 13 at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. Visitation will then be held at East Sunsbury Baptist Church near Beallsville on Monday, June 14 from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am with Pastor Jeff Horner offering words of comfort. Burial will follow in Beallsville Cemetery.
