Betty Leanna Hammond, 95, a resident of Ohio Living Westminster Thurber Assisted Living, Columbus, Ohio died Monday, March 1, 2021 at her home. She was born November 5, 1925 near Powhatan Point, Ohio, the youngest of five children of the late Frank and Leanna Johnson Hammond.
Betty was a graduate of Powhatan High School, Class of 1943 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Franklin University. She was a CPA and had been employed by the State of Ohio working for both the Auditor of the State and the Department of Education as well as being employed as a bookkeeper and secretary for various businesses throughout the Columbus area. Betty enjoyed a myriad of interests from traveling, to reading, to sewing, to wood refinishing, along with many others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Robert Hammond. Surviving are two sisters, Inez Caldwell of Beallsville and Mary McGrew of Powhatan Point; a sister-in-law, Inez Hammond of Powhatan Point; also several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend graveside services on Friday, March 5 at 11am in Belmont County Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Clairsville, Ohio. Memorial contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
