Bill Rees, 62, formerly of Woodsfield, Ohio died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 while a patient in the James Cancer Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. He was born May 23, 1953 in Massena, New York, the middle child of the late Harry and Mary Lou Gurtner Rees. Bill's family moved from Massena to Monroe County in 1956 and Bill graduated from Woodsfield High School in 1971. Over the years he worked as a union laborer, traveling throughout Eastern Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Arizona. He also worked for the State of Ohio Auditor's Office. For over 30 years, Bill lived at Wilson Lake, near Beallsville, the perfect setting for one who loved all outdoors. He married Kathy Tremblay in 2001 and together they loved their life around the lake, where they enjoyed swimming, fishing, hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing. Bill will always be remembered as a warm and loving husband; a caring and devoted son and brother; an uncle always eager to play, fish, and swim with his nieces and nephews; a true friend who was forever ready to help friends and neighbors alike. He was a strong union man and a life-long Democrat and he enjoyed traveling and walking on the beach. Surviving in addition to his loving wife, Kathy, are two brothers, Lou (Deb Sanborn) Rees of Akron and Bob (Laura) Rees of Apache Junction, Arizona; his mother-in-law, Lola Tremblay; his in-laws, Carol and Wayne Headings, Bill and Sharon Tremblay, Karen and Steve Mercer, and Teresa and Steve Johnson; 11 nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. To celebrate his life, a gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, April 6 from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville. Bill's family invites you to come and join with him as they honor his memory by sharing your memories. In keeping with his giving spirit, Kathy requests that in lieu of flowers, you honor Bill's memory by a contribution to "Rally for Life," PO Box 250, Beallsville, Ohio 43716.
