Chester E. Hopton, 99, of Dalton, Ohio, formerly of Beallsville, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013 in Massillon Affinity Medical Center. He was born May 14,1914 near Beallsville, a son of the late William "Bill" and Arminta Jeffers Hopton. He was a retired employee of United Engineering and a member of Canton Lodge #60 F & AM. In addition to his parents, Chester was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Roberts Hopton in November, 2003; two sisters, Nina Eberle and Elizabeth Carpenter; one brother Homer Hopton. Chester retired to Denver, Colorado but later moved to Apple Valley, California where he was active in the Masonic Lodge, President of Meals on Wheels, and took many trophies in Horse Shoe Tournaments. He and his wife, Hazel moved to Monahans, TX and in January, 2009 he returned to Ohio and lived in Shady Lawn Oaks Assisted Living in Dalton. While there he made many friends and enjoyed playing cards and other planned activities. Chester is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as friends in Texas and Ohio. Visitation will be Wednesday at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial follows in Beallsville Cemetery.
