Clifford Marcum, Sr., 88, formerly of Marietta, Ohio and Beallsville, Ohio passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2020 at the Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield, Ohio, following a short battle with cancer. He was born in Kirk, West Virginia on Thursday, November 26, 1931, the first born of the late Henry Marcum, Jr. and Daisy Nelson Marcum. Clifford was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and also a retired miner from the Consol/Quarto #4 coal mine. Throughout his life he was very active coaching baseball, whether little league, pony league, or even helping with high school teams. He played and coached softball at his home church, the Marietta Church of God, well into his seventies. At the Monroe County Care Center, he was the first to get in the van to go on trips and rarely missed an activity or event. In addition to his parents, Clifford was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Hatfield Marcum and two brothers, Robert Marcum and Kenneth Marcum. Surviving are four sons, Cliff (Pat) Marcum, Jr. of Beallsville, Barry (Crystal) Marcum of Skiatook, Oklahoma, Bryan (Tammy) Marcum of Malaga, and Don Marcum of Belmont, Ohio; one sister, Faye Marcum Devers, of St. Augustine, Florida; a special sister-in-law, Lydia Hatfield Cumbo of Plain City, Ohio; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville from 4pm until 8pm Monday, February 3 and from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am on Tuesday, February 4, with Robert Fraley, friend of the family, officiating. Burial follows in Beallsville Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post #768. In lieu of flowers, Clifford's family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Monroe County Care Center Activities Department, 47045 Moore Ridge Road, Woodsfield, Ohio 43793 or The Amedisys Foundation, 171 National Rd.
