David Marmie, Sr. Obituary

David Franklin Marmie Sr, 93, of Woodsfield, Ohio, formerly of Ozark, Ohio and Traverse City, Michigan died Tuesday, November 19th, 2024. He was born September 16th, 1931 in Bethesda, Ohio (Belmont County), a son of the late Fred and Nellie (Chambers) Marmie.

David was a Korean War Veteran serving in Germany and also at a military radar station in Empire, Michigan. He was a brick layer for 31 years at the former Ormet Corporation in Hannibal, Ohio.  Some of his masonry work can still be seen around Monroe County.  David loved life, joked, smiled, and would end his phone calls with “don’t forget to have some fun.”  He enjoyed talking with his family, and loved searching for hidden treasures at local auctions or yard sales. For years, he enjoyed watching harness and dog racing at Wheeling Downs.  David spent many hours tinkering on small engines and always took pride in keeping the lawn manicured with decorative Christmas lights for all to see at the family home in Ozark, Ohio.  He amazingly could fix just about anything. He rarely missed a ball game that his boys played in and rarely turned down an offer to throw a ball in the back yard.  David moved to Traverse City, Michigan where he remarried and lived for over 20 years.

David was the final living member of his immediate Marmie family.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Norma (Egler) Marmie of Traverse City, Michigan, his daughter, Debra (JD) Burke of Ozark, Ohio and eleven siblings, Charles (WWII), Eleanor, Jessie, Ida Louise, Evelyn, Mabel, Robert, Elmer, Carl, and two half-brothers, Marion and Carris.  Left to cherish his memory are his first wife, Naomi (Poulson) Marmie of Woodsfield, Ohio, four children; Shirley Marmie-McCance of Byesville, Ohio, David Franklin Marmie Jr. of Germantown, Ohio, John (Monica) Marmie of Morgan Hill, California, and Anthony Marmie of Columbus, Ohio.  Grandchildren include; Jarrin (Sarah) Burke, Savannah (Travis) Eddy, Matthew (Lanae) Burke, Le Vanelle Marmie, Deidre (Jared) Colvin, Christian Callarik, Zane Marmie, Isaiah Marmie, and Ethan Marmie, eight great grandchildren,  three great-great grandchildren, and the Egler step-family.

Family and friends will be received at the Wilson Funeral Home - Harper Chapel, Beallsville, Ohio, Sunday, November 24th from 11am to 2pm at which time Full Military Honors by American Legion Post 768 will be presented at the funeral home.  Funeral services with Wayne Clark offering words of comfort will immediately follow.  Burial will then take place in the Ozark Cemetery.   Following the burial service, family and friends are invited to attend an informal gathering at David's niece’s bistro and bar, the Main Street Barrel House, 137 East Main Street, Barnesville, Ohio, to celebrate his life.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Gas Cards, Inc.,  c/o Shirley Brown, 48397 Keylor Hill Road, Woodsfield, Ohio 43793 or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
