Donald R. "Flip" DeLongo

Donald R. "Flip" DeLongo passed to his heavenly home on Friday, November 16, 2018. He was a resident of the Shadyside Care Center and had formerly resided in Beallsville and Powhatan Point. He was born October 8, 1929 in Avella, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Condo and Barbara Palmer DeLongo. Don graduated from Powhatan High School and received his Bachelors Degree in Education from West Liberty State College and his Masters Degree in Education from West Virginia University. He was a former teacher and coach at Powhatan, Barnesville, and Beallsville High Schools. Don received many awards for coaching from the PVC and the OVAC and was inducted into several Sports Halls of Fame. He was a soft-spoken teacher and coach who influenced the lives of his students and athletes. Don was a proud US Army Veteran, a member of the Beallsville First Christian Church, Moriah Lodge 105 F & AM Powhatan Point, American Legion Post 228, VFW Post 5565, and he also was a former trustee of South Central Power Company. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded death by his beloved wife, Eleanor Margola DeLongo on July 29, 2013, one brother, Raymond DeLongo, also one sister, Bobbie June Horvath. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara (Robert) Phillips of Jerusalem and Bonnie (Brad) Johnson of St. Clairsville; his cherished grandchildren, Heidi Phillips Meade, Matthew (Danielle) Phillips, Kala (Justin) Mowery, Jon (Bethany) Perkins, and Sarah (Trey) Schmidt. He was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren, Uryan, Breanna, and Jaxon Meade; Emmett and Amelia Phillips; Wyatt and Kinzy Mowery; Thomas Schmidt; also Baby Phillips, due on November 30. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces. Friends and family will be received Sunday from 4pm to 8pm at the Harper Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Monday at 11am. Burial with full military honors will follow in Jerusalem Cemetery. Masonic services will be conducted Sunday at 7:45pm at the funeral home. The family would like to offer their thanks to both the Shadyside Care Center and Valley Hospice for the excellent care given to Don.
