Donald “Don” Wayne Miller, Sr. passed away on July 23, 2021 at his home just a few months short of his 90th birthday. He was born September 27, 1931 in Clarington, Ohio, the oldest of six children of the late George W. and Gladys Brown Miller.
Don grew up on the family farm on Dry Ridge, enlisted in the Air Force, and married Eileen Hossman on November 13, 1954. Don and Eileen would have soon celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Upon Don’s discharge from the Air Force, he and Eileen settled in on their own little farm in Malaga where they raised their seven children. Don worked as a draftsmen for Ormet, #4 and #6 coal mines, and later retired from Glacier Vanderbilt.
His most enjoyable moments included playing any musical instrument, singing, drawing on the computer, camping, riding his scooter, and keeping up with NASA. His biggest joy in life was spending time with his wife and family, watching the family grow, and playing with the grandbabies. He loved polkas and gracing the dance floor with Eileen.
Don was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Miltonsburg, a prior member of the Knights of Columbus, and a strong supporter of St. Sylvester Central School.
Surviving are his wife Eileen and six children, Cathy (Jerry) Taylor of Malaga, Bill (Brenda) Miller of Barnesville, Donnie Miller of New Concord, Jeff (Wendi) Miller of Somerton, Krista (Ed) Lane of Barnesville, and Anna (Joey) Lang of Malaga; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister Juanita Albus; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert “Bob” and Gayle Miller; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Krone, Judy (Lowell) Thomas, and Bertha Hossman; a brother-in-law, Norman Lund; several nieces, nephews, and many friends. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy and grandson Isaiah; a brother and sister-in-law, George “Jr” and Patricia Miller; also a brother, Eugene Miller; a sister, Shirley Lund; two brothers-in-law, Marvin Hossman and Robert Krone.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville, Sunday, July 25 from 4pm until the time of the Vigil Service at 7:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Miltonsburg Monday, July 26 at 11am with Father Timothy Davison, Celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors presented by American Legion Post 768. In lieu of flowers and keepsakes, the family requests that donations be made to St. Sylvester Central School, 119 Wayne Street Woodsfield, OH 43793.
