Dorothy Shafer Obituary

Dorothy Riley Kuhn Shafer, 91, formerly of Beallsville, died Tuesday, October 6, 2015 in the Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield. She was born August 29, 1924 in Belmont County, a daughter of the late Harry and Mary Carpenter Riley. She was a member of the Beallsville United Methodist Church, a Charter Member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of American Legion Post 768, and a member of the Pythian Sisters. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Bob Kuhn in 1970; three sisters, Lorena Groves, Lela Jarrett, and Beulah Neff; two brothers, Starling and Ora Riley. Also preceding her in death was an infant son. Surviving are her husband of 41 years, Harry Shafer; one son, Danny Kuhn of Beallsville; three grandchildren, Jimmy Brown and Anna Kuhn (Chad Huffman) of Beallsville, and Bobby Kuhn of Alledonia; seven great-grandchildren, Macy, Bryce, Levi, Garrett, Wyatt, Makenna, and Brody; a sister, Ruth Thornberry of Beallsville, a sister-in-law, Dessie Riley of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received Sunday from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville where funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 AM with Rev. Richard Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 768 Ladies' Auxiliary, 52671 Broad Street, Beallsville, Ohio 43716.
