Evelyn Yvonne Hamilton

In the early hours of Thursday, October 17, 2013 Evelyn Yvonne Brock Hamilton was welcomed into Heaven by her beloved husband, John William Hamilton, brother William Ernest Brock, parents Ernest and Mary Thornberry Brock, and grandson, Eric Lee Crooks. Evelyn was born on April 9, 1932 in Beallsville, where she lived most of her life. She graduated Beallsville High School in 1951 and married Private First Class John W. Hamilton on September 27, 1952, just days before he shipped out to Korea for two long years. She worked as a clerk in the Stark County Courthouse in Canton, Ohio until John returned stateside. They soon started their family and she devoted herself to being a full-time wife, homemaker, mother, and ruler of the roost. As a young woman, Evelyn had dreamed of going to nursing school, and later in life, had the opportunity to work in health care as a nursing aide at Barnesville Hospital for many years. She loved her job, and made many lifelong friends as a result. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Beallsville, and was active in OES #24. She and John served as Worthy Matron & Patron of the lodge twice, and they participated regularly in Grand Chapter. She was a world-class cook and baker in her day, and her recipes keep her in the heart of many homes each time her best dishes are shared and enjoyed. It must be said that she took home the Blue Ribbon in the Annual Hamilton Family Reunion Pie Bake-Off too many years to count, much to the chagrin of her competition. Following John's death in 2012, Evelyn moved into Emerald Pointe Health & Rehab Center in Barnesville, where she dominated the daily Bingo game, enjoyed outings like viewing the Christmas lights at Oglebay Park, and made many new friends. Even in her last difficult days, Evelyn had a smile for everyone who visited her, and loved having her family, friends, and caretakers around her. Left to celebrate her life are five children, Barbara (Walter) Dornon, Cynthia (Roger) Crooks, Rebecca Hamilton, Stephanie (Robert) Morris, Jr., and John (Michelle) Hamilton; a sister, Doris (Fred) Baker; a sister-in-law, Janet Brock; eight grandchildren, Jason (Heather) Dornon & Anthony (Ashley) Dornon, Dawn (J.C.) Mercer & Justin (Natasha) Crooks, Haydn Hamilton, Jack Wells & Samson Wells and Mariah Hamilton; and seven great-grandchildren, Kellen, Kennedy & Kasslyn Dornon, Pacyn & Daylin Mercer, and Emily & Katie Crooks. Evelyn's family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses, aides, and hospice staff at Emerald Pointe for their loving care in her final days. They find comfort knowing that she passed over peacefully to join John and share their heavenly reward together. In her memory, it is asked that you bake something delicious and share it - and a smile - with your family. Friends and family will be received Saturday from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville where funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 PM with Ed Fellabaum officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery. Eastern Star services will be conducted at the funeral home, Saturday at 8 PM.
