Fred Thomas Vaness, 88, of Malaga, died May 20, 2011 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, where he had lived for the last 30 years. He was born May 29, 1922, near Beallsville, a son of the late George and Maude Palmer Vaness. Fred was a retired dozer operator for Blaney Lumber. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Persons Vaness; a brother Floyd Vaness; a sister, Ellie Vaness Jacobs; a half-brother, Forest Atkinson. He is survived by his daughter with whom he resided, Helen (Ross) Larew; three grandchildren, Betty (Chunk) Hudson, Amy (Dennis) Carpenter, and Bubba (Shannon) Larew all of Malaga; four great-grandchildren, Dusty Wilcox, Breelyn Hudson, Bode and Baylee Carpenter; several nieces and nephews. Fred will leave a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Friends will be received at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville Sunday from 5PM to 8 PM where funeral services will be held Monday at 1 PM with Pastor Floyd Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow in Boston Cemetery.
