Gene Levi "Hemi’’ Deaton, 83, of Alledonia, Ohio died Thursday, December 2, 2021 in Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehab Center, Barnesville, Ohio. He was born February 17, 1938 in Hazlehurst, Georgia, a son of the late Herman and Blanche Burnham Deaton.
Gene was a US Army Veteran. He retired from the former ORMET Corporation near Hannibal, Ohio after 42 years of service. Gene loved bird watching and enjoying the outdoors and was an avid gardener.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Emily Crago, and three sisters, Eva Carter, Joyce Thompson, and Betty Mincey.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carolyn Datkuliak Deaton whom he married on December 24, 1960; their children, Carla (John) Crago, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Mark Deaton of Alledonia, Ohio, Michael (Tammy) Deaton, of Clarington, Ohio and Bryan (Kim) Deaton of Hope Mills, North Carolina; grandchildren, Abigail and Chase Crago, Kayla, Jason, and Kristen Deaton, Rayshel Morris, Krista Deaton, and Anna Deaton; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Madelynn, and Ethan Morris and Troy Peoni; niece, Shirley Calhoun and nephews, Steve and Davyd Mincey.
To celebrate Gene’s life, a visitation and memorial service for family and friends will be held at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville, Ohio Saturday, April 9 from 12 noon until 1:45pm at which time Full Military Honors by American Legion Post 768 will be presented. Memorial services with Minister Colin Morrison presiding will begin immediately after the brief American Legion service.
