George William "Bill" Riley

George William "Bill" Riley, a longtime resident of Cleveland, Ohio died Monday, April 10, 2017 at the age of 91. He was born January 11, 1926 in Beallsville, Ohio a son of the late John Riley and Viola Mann Riley Taylor. Bill was the devoted husband of Carol Wells Riley for 67 years; father of Rebecca (Keith) Groves, Bruce (Mary Beth) Riley, Brian Riley (deceased) and Philip Riley; grandfather of Sara and Adam Groves (Sara Luttfring), Donovan, Spencer, and Maureen Riley; great-grandfather of Katharine Groves; brother of Beverly Kress, Robert Riley (deceased), and Fred Riley (deceased); brother-in-law of Oscar Kress (deceased), and Mary Lu Riley (deceased). He was "Uncle Bill" to many nieces and nephews. Bill was a pressman at Penton Press in Cleveland for forty-five years, retiring in 1991. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Church of Christ. A US Navy Veteran of WWII, he was a member of VFW Post 1863 of Solon, Ohio. Bill was a generous blood and platelet donor and a member of the American Red Cross Hall of Fame for donating more than 200 platelet units. A Mason for over 65 years, Bill was a member of Sunsbury Lodge, John W. Barkley Lodge, a member of Ellbrook Eastern Star, and the Lakewood White Shrine. He was also a Scottish Rite Mason for over 50 years. Visitation will be held Monday, April 17, 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM at the Harper Funeral Home Beallsville where funeral services will held Tuesday, April 18 at 11 AM with Rev. Richard Wilson officiating. Interment follows in Beallsville Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 768. Masonic services will be conducted Monday at 6:30 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Bill's family suggests donations be made to the American Red Cross.
