Harley E. Boughner

Harley E. Boughner, 89, a resident of the Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield, and formerly of Jerusalem, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the Center. He was born April 12, 1921 near Cameron, Ohio, a son of the late Stephen E. and Mary Jane Vaness Boughner. He was a retired employee of the former North American Coal #3 Mine near Dillies Bottom. Harley was a US Army Veteran of WWII, serving with the 46th Armored Infantry, 5th Armored Division, which participated in the D Day Invasion on Utah Beach. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received during combat; he was also the recipient of the "Normandy Medal" which was awarded by the Veterans Administration. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Morris Boughner; a brother, Harold; two sisters, Amelia Lindenmeyer, and Doris Smith. Surviving are three daughters, Patricia (Rodney) Ray and Carol Fisher both of Beallsville, and Marcia Shriver of Jerusalem; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Matoszkia, Robert Ray, Jason Shriver, Kara Moats, and Lea Fisher; two great grandchildren, Carah Weber and Harley Moats; three sisters, Delores Dickson of Steinersville, Norma Jenewein of Barnesville, and Nora Dietz of McConnelsville; his special friend, Betty Jean Husk. Visitation will be Saturday from 5 to 8 PM at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville where funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 PM with Jeff Rich officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 768.
