Herman Lee Mellott, 71, of Beallsville, Ohio passed away Friday, August 31, 2018 in Wheeling Hospital. He was born October 5, 1946 in St. Clairsville, Ohio, a son of the late Roscoe Merle and Alma Jane Reed Mellott. Herman was a proud US Army Veteran of the Viet Nam Era and a life-long farmer. He had been employed as a bus driver with the Switzerland of Ohio School District for 40 years; he was a member of the East Sunsbury Baptist Church near Beallsville, a member of the Beallsville Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years; a member of American Legion Post 768. Helping others was his calling, from the children on his bus route to the organizations in which he belonged, he will be remembered for his devotion to his community. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Bettie Jo "BJ" Couture Mellott; two sons, Mark A. (Carol) Mellott of Barnesville and Mikel L. Mellott of Beallsville; two brothers, Glen (Della) Mellott and Carlos (Patty) Mellott, both of Beallsville; two sisters, Betty (Lloyd) Gallaher of Jerusalem, and Irene Monte de Ramos of Kansas; twin granddaughters, Erin and Ashley Mellott; two grandsons, Ethan and Caleb Mellott; also several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm at the Harper Funeral Home Beallsville where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11am with Pastor Jeff Horner officiating. Interment follows in East Sunsbury Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 768. In keeping with Herman's giving spirit, in lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Beallsville Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 68, Beallsville, Ohio 43716.
