John Frederick Thomas, Sr., 85, formerly of Alledonia, Ohio died Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at his home near New Martinsville, West Virginia. He was born February 15, 1931 in York, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Russell, Sr. and Lottie Eberle Thomas. John was a proud US Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a retired Journeyman Machinist with Tri-State Machine in Wheeling, West Virginia, a member of the Armstrong Mills United Methodist Church, and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8548, Madison, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Thomas, Jr. and a sister, Mae Lynch. Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 52 years, Johanna Witulski Thomas; their children, Jennifer (Robert) Long of Clarington, John "Rick" (Susan) Thomas, Jr. of New Martinsville, Joseph (Joy) Thomas of Miltonsburg, and Jill Thomas (Joseph Hubbard) of Coolville; his first wife, Mary and their children; Steve (Geri), Mark (Cindy), Patricia (Chuck) and Rhonda, all of Omaha, Nebraska; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; many beloved nieces and nephews; also many, many friends. Visitation will be held at the Harper Funeral Home from 11 am until the time of the funeral service at 1 pm with full military honors presented by American Legion Post #768. In keeping with John's wishes, cremation will take place after the service at the funeral home.
