Joseph "Joe" Kendel, Sr. 79, of Clarington, Ohio, formerly of Manchester, Ohio died Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at his home. He was born June 16, 1932 near Barberton, Ohio, a son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Bartok Kendel. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War, and a member of American Legion Post 768 where he served as Adjutant under two commanders. Joe was a Catholic by faith, a retired auto body repairman, a former Summit County deputy sheriff, and an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Kendel, Jr. and a brother, Tom Kendel. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Dolores Anderson Kendel; a daughter, Sherry (Steve) Kemp of Beallsville, two sons, Mark (Debbie) Kendel, and Daniel (Danielle) Kendel, both of Akron; two brothers, Paul and Jim Kendel, both of Barberton; two sisters, Barbara (Don) Hope of Canal Fulton and Mary Miga of Norton; eleven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville from noon until the time of the funeral service at 2 PM with Msgr. Mark J. Froehlich officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery.
