Lisa Joy Workman

This obituary was composed and written by Lisa Workman herself over months of deep thought and reflection and given to us by her loving family. It was important to them that these recollections in her own words be relayed in exactly the same manner and style in which she wrote them . . .
Lisa J. Workman, 55, of Jerusalem, Ohio passed from this earth on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at her home, lovingly surrounded by her family. She was born May 21, 1960 in Cheverly, Maryland, a daughter of Carole Williams Lawson and the late Leaven Lawson. She had an educational, adventurous life traveling with her family in the US Military. Having lived in seven states, Maryland, Virginia, Alabama, California, Texas, Mississippi, Lisa ended up in Ohio, where her husband, Terry D. Workman was born. They moved to Monroe County in 1984. Lisa started writing poetry in the early 1970's, having a great collection that she enjoyed writing over the years. In the early 1990's she wrote a weekly column in "The Spirit of Democracy" newspaper printed by William "Bill" Moore who lived in an area now named, "Moore Ridge Road" near Jerusalem where she and her children made their home. Lisa very much enjoyed fishing with her family, going on walks, picking flowers and leaves, using nature to make framed pictures, reading good books, and most of all raising her children, making sure they heard and read the "Word" of God . . . "Jesus." Lisa was not a friend of the world's system . . . When her children left for school, she made sure they took "the word" with them with "pocket verses," a Bible verse written on a piece of paper carried in their pocket which may have been read at any time (if a friend spent the night, they got one, too). Mom would hear how it helped while away from home. It matters not, that Mom's not here to still do that, because when you raise a child in God's word, they will not depart from it. . . therefore, through Jesus, all future family members will have God's word written in their hearts, as well.
Lisa was preceded in death by her dad, Lee Lawson who lived in Belhaven, North Carolina; her Grandpa Charles, and Grandma Madeline Williams, of Washington, DC; and a brother, Wayne Lawson who lived in Gulfport, Mississippi. Surviving are her children: Mark L. (Sandra) Workman, Daniel L. Workman, Christopher L. Workman, and Joseph E. Workman; grandchildren, Abigail J. Workman and Emily L. Workman, all of the home; her mother, Carol Lawson and brother, Bruce Lawson, of Gulfport, Mississippi; her aunt Loretta Ralph; cousin Linda Ralph; uncle Charles Williams, and many more cousins, nephews, and nieces in Maryland. Lisa wanted to say that she realized that all of her family members are gifts from God that made her life extra beautiful, especially through hard times, which she believed the Lord may choose to give his children to ensure they always come to him in prayer. . .
There will be no viewing, however to celebrate Lisa's life, a gathering of family and friends will be held at the First Christian Church in Beallsville on Sunday, October 25 from 1 PM until the time of a funeral service at 2PM with Wayne Clark officiating.
