Richard Lee Miller, 88 of Beallsville died Monday, March 5, 2012 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV. He was born February 10, 1924 in Clarington, a son of the late Roy D. and Laura Bye Miller, Sr. He retired in 1985 from the Switzerland of Ohio School District after 30 years of service. He was a 65 year member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Powhatan Point. Since moving to the Beallsville area in 1987, he has attended Jerusalem United Methodist Church. Richard was a 63 year member of Clarington Lodge 597 F & AM; served as District Deputy Grand Master for the 18th Masonic District in 1994 - 1996; a 55 year member and Past High Priest of Bellaire Chapter 107 Royal Arch Masons; a 55 year member and Past Illustrious Master of Bellaire Council 87, a 54 year member and Past Commander of Hope Commandery 26, Bridgeport; a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge; a 47 year member of Priory 18, Knights of the York Cross of Honour; a Past Sovereign Master of Ohio River Council 297 Allied Masonic Degrees of Steubenville; a Charter Member of Ohio River Council 63 Knight Masons, Past Governor of Fort Steuben York Rite College 194, and a 57 year member of Clarington Chapter 533 OES.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn M. Abel and her husband, Fred; a brother, Roy D. Miller, Jr. and his wife, Edna; also a grandson, Anthony Miller. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Gloria N. Milligan Miller; three sons, Neil (Vicky) Miller and Gary (Judy) Miller of Beallsville and Curtis (Alice) Miller of Indianapolis, IN; four grandchildren, Daniel (Jessica) Miller, Kristi (Greg) Lookfong, Rachelle Miller, Brian Miller; three great grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew, and Annaliese; three step great grandchildren, Jacob, Jadon, and Trinity. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 AM with Pastors Jean Cooper and Richard Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery. Eastern Star Services will be conducted Wednesday at 6:30 PM at the funeral home followed by Masonic Services. In lieu of flowers, Richard's family requests that donations may be made to the 18th Masonic District Scholarship Program, c/o David Walters, 105 Main Street, Powhatan Point, OH 43942.
