W. Yvonne Thomas Lutz

W. Yvonne Thomas Lutz passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014 on her 67th birthday in Mt. Carmel West Hospital, Columbus. She was born in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Howard Ardell and Edna Belle Bradford Thomas. She moved to Ohio at age eleven. Yvonne graduated from Beallsville High School in 1965. She went to Ohio University to study mathematics, receiving her undergraduate degree in 1986 followed by her Master's degree in 1988. She moved to Virginia, and then to Baltimore, Maryland, taught mathematics at several colleges, and worked as a mathematician for twenty years, retiring from the National Security Agency. Yvonne is survived by two children, Katrina (Benjamin) Gustafson, mother to grandson Harrison Porter, age seven, of Columbus, Ohio; and Cory (Elizabeth) Lutz, father to granddaughter Katherine Belle, age twenty months of Baltimore, Maryland. She is survived by her niece, who was like a daughter to her, Melanie Thomas (Craig) Keller, mother to great-niece and nephew (like grandchildren to her) Allison, age fourteen, and Benjamin, age twelve, of Maryland. She was the oldest of three children, and is survived by her brothers Howard (Kathleen) Thomas Jr., father to nephews Christopher, Marcus, and Matthew of Woodsfield, Ohio; and Barry (Regina) Landeros-Thomas, father to nieces Elysia and Aitana of Phoenix, Arizona. Her nieces and nephews were all very special to her. She loved her grandchildren very much and enjoyed family events. She enjoyed shopping, crocheting, solving puzzles, buying books (and sometimes reading them), and watching movies. She was a very caring person, often thinking of others before herself. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Yvonne's life will be will be held Tuesday, September 2 at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville from 1 PM to 3 PM. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery.
